Uncle Sam CX GP Race Report

The Uncle Sam GP of Cyclocross was a huge success, attracting some top Men and Women racers, and record numbers looking to gather NYCROSS.com p/b VOmax Series points. Christian Favata (Richard Sachs/RGM Watches) and Curtis White (Hot Tubes Development) put on an exciting show Saturday. The two commanded a sizable gap on the rest of the Men’s Elite field early in the race. They battled back and forth, traded leads several times,

and pushed each other to their limits. On the last lap, and in front of a gathering crowd, Christian augured on the grassy hill and somersaulted to the ground producing loud groans, gasps, and cheers from the crowd. Curtis immediately drilled it but slid out only 10 seconds later which allowed Christian to pass Curtis which drew even louder groans, gasps, and cheers from spectators. The crowd

dashed from corner to corner on the course to witness the drama. Curtis clawed back the advantage that Favata had gained, and it looked like White could catch back on, and he did! It came down to a sprint in the final narrow road straight away to the finish line. Curtis came around Christian, but Favata dug deep and held on, winning by a half a wheel. Incredible finish. I sure hope you all stayed to witness that!

Day two brought Favata and Curtis back, but the muddier conditions made it difficult for the two to maneuver like they did on Day 1. Favata won Day two, White second, and smooth riding youngster Cooper Willsey (Cyclocrossworld.com) filled the 3rd spot on the podium.

In the Women’s Elite race on Day 1, Maghalie Rochette (Powerwatts-FTIME) from St. Jerome, Quebec Canada showed off her blistering speed on Saturday’s dry and fast course and finished first. Jenny Ives (Favata TRT-UNOVELO) was second, and Emma White (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com) rounded out the podium in third. On Day 2, Jenny Ives (Favata TRT-UNOVELO) took first place, Emma White (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com) took 2nd and Rosanne Van Dorn (Team Placid Planet) got 3rd place in the muddy conditions.

Wayne Bray (Embrocation Cycling Journal) remains in the Series Leader Jersey after two solid finishes at Troy and his win at Kirkland. Rosanne Van Dorn (Team Placid Planet) retained the Series Leader Jersey in the Women’s Elite division.
